Don was born on December 28, 1933, in Effingham, a son of Noah A and Noral N. Carter Lewis. He married F. Paulette Eller on August 9, 1969 in Paris, IL, and she passed away on December 8, 2011.

Surviving children include Jody (Michael) Gooch of Argyle, TX, Joy (Steven) Weidner of Chesterfield, MO, Jon (Stephani) Lewis of Kennesaw, GA, Jill (Ryan) Earley of Urbana, and Jenette (Tyson) Cunningham of Tolono. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Drew, Logan, Griffin, Camryn, Noah, Evan, Katie, Nolan, Kylee, Aubree and Emeree, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, Melvin and Delbert Lewis, and 2 sisters, Athalien Melvin and Illa Montaque.

Don was born and raised on a farm in Southern Illinois. He retired from Charles Todd Uniform Service after over 30 years of employment. Although his career was spent as a businessman, his passion was farming. After his retirement his love of the farm and his desire to stay busy brought him back to work for Jim Boland in Ivesdale for over 10 years. He appreciated Jim giving him the opportunity to get back to his roots, where he worked through the last harvest.

Don built his house in Ivesdale in 1974 where he and his wife raised his loving family. He enjoyed everything outdoors, especially mowing. His most precious gifts in life were his wife, children, and grandchildren. Don was loved by many in the community and best known for his quick whit, great sense of humor and easy going personality.

Although Don was diagnosed with Leukemia late last year, he was cancer free prior to his passing. His positive spirit and fight was admirable and he will be missed dearly. His family would like to thank his loving neighbors along with the compassionate oncology team at Carle Hospital for all they did for him.
